Hey, I am Alease Michelle , an mixed media collage artist and author of Studio 2229. I would go into greater detail in telling you about the many jobs I've had and what I currently doing now, or where I went to school, but honestly and straight forward- I am just another artist trying to find a way to make a life of art and creativity, while helping other people like myself to become creative and empowered (check out my other blog on artist tips on this exact subject). Also like other artists I am trying to make a living from my art and teach others how to design and make art ( I'm a professor at an art&design college- Opps!).
Why I create Art? Creating art gives me the chance to make visual representations of what's in my head- trying so hard to get out. I'm able to speak thru- the process of creating something from paper & glue. My mixed media collages are themed around memories of those I love and wish I knew. I'm always looking for ways to provoke a memory that someone can relate or add to.
What inspires me? I love vintage photos- especially photos of African Americans. The women & men in these photos have a sense of sophication about themselves and their clothing is always neat and pressed. There's a simple nature of living in those photos. There is also a sense of importance of family and passing on stories from one generation to the next.
My artist process.
I will share my personal experiences as an emerging artist. I've been journal writing for a very long time (since I was 10) and I have been creating art even longer so, blogging just seem like a natural transition for me.
