If you have read my about page or viewed my Youtube videos you would know that I have been blogging for some years and one of the biggest problems I’ve had nothing to do with traffic, it was worse than that. It was bad content. I had lots to say, but I just didn’t know how to get people to act on what I saying or content with them. Below I’ve listed 3 blogging tips for beginners seeking authentic traffic.
Blogging Traffic Tip #1 - Create Content Calls for Action
You want people to not only read your blog but to also subscribe and buy something. Blog readers will fall over themselves to do what you say only when you tell them what to do. Every post you write should give your blog reader an action to take. Every idea you share with your reader, they should be able to implement the idea in their business or personal lives right away.
I'm not sure who I read this from but I remember reading that the best way to sell a product is to give your customers a plan that they can follow and implement right away and then give them the resources to do that with. Many creative entrepreneurs write ebooks or articles or blogs that are very informative but don't really presell what they are trying to promote. Giving people a plan they can follow straight away after reading what you wrote will give them that incentive to buy what you are selling.
Call to Action Phrases:
- “Buy Now”
- “Call today to reserve your Space”
- "Claim your Free Subscription”
- “Do it today and avoid disappointment”
- “Download your Free Report”
- “If you found this article helpful, sign up for the ______ newsletter to receive more weekly suggestions, guaranteed to help you grow your business?”
Blogging Traffic Tip #2 - Create Content That Is Classic and Timeless
If you want your business to be around for while and you want your blog readers to return in 3 years, still able to find your content relevant to them? Then you need to make sure the content is classic and timeless, whether they read it in 3 months, 3 years or 30 years from now.
I know it might be hard to write timeless content when you are writing about software or technology, but some topics however, will always be timeless. Find those, write on them.
Classic & Timeless Content Ideas:
- Define key terms related to your industry
- Write how to post
- Share a story about a customer
- Give background on a development of a product
Blogging Traffic Tip #3 - Write For Your Visitors -Not Search Engines
While you should be optimizing your blog for search engines, and I talk about this some in the following post "What's SEO and Does My Creative Business Need It?", but your main focus should be on writing for audience. Keep this in mind always. Don't use your keywords all over your blog posts to the point where it does not make sense.
This might work sometimes for search engine ranking and you may get some extra traffic, but they won't stay long if the content is obviously geared for search engine ranking. Blog readers have somewhat short attention span and they won't waste it on junk.
Write in a natural way. Use industry terms that are current and noticeable to your audience. If you use slang in your every day speech, then I suggest you do the same in your blog post. There is no need for academic writing. There is nothing worse then reading a blog with no personality.
Blog readers like it when you talk to them one on one like an old friend. Talk to them as if there is only one person was reading your blog. Having a unique personality will get you more traffic from people telling people about your site then any "traffic building" technique. Natural, cool blogging is better and creates more authentic content.
